PLAYSTATION / MLB THE SHOW

bat and ball

At my first gig, I worked for creative genius—and certifiable madman—Steve Luker (former ECD at Wieden+Kennedy Portland).

One of our clients was MLB: The Show, Playstation’s acclaimed baseball video game. While most video game ads rely on game footage montages, we aimed to do something different, something that would challenge our clients.

After noticing my doodling style, Steve asked me to draw a bat and a ball—and that’s how we brought the greatest sports rivalry of all time to life.

Role: Writing + Art + Voice + Editing + Music

the characters

Think Beavis and Butthead. Spongebob and Patrick. Pinky and The Brain. These two characters, Bat and Ball, were our official spokespeople. They allowed us to talk to a younger audience of gamers in irreverent and “internetty” ways. And they let us do whatever we wanted on social media.

the episodes

IGN commissioned a five episode cartoon series. It’s live on both their website and YouTube. I got to write (and draw, and voice!) a cartoon series at my first job. How cool is that? Side note, animation is the most brutal production process of all time. Anyway, here’s two of my favorites:

digital / social

Made to be creations of the internet, we set them loose on Twitter and other social platforms to wreak havoc. They also let us hawk discounts and other standard ads in ways that were ridiculous.
